Crescent Lunge Twist

Description:

A dynamic variation of Crescent Lunge that builds strength, balance, and detoxification. This twist activates the core and challenges stability while opening the spine and chest.

Alignment Cues:

  • Front Foot and Leg:
    • Front foot planted firmly, knee stacked over the ankle
    • Thigh parallel to the floor if possible
  • Back Foot and Leg:
    • Ball of the back foot pressing down, heel lifted
    • Back leg straight and strong with lifted quadriceps
  • Hips:
    • Hips square to the front of the mat
    • Keep hips level as you move into the twist
  • Torso and Twist:
    • Lengthen the spine on the inhale
    • Twist from the mid-back on the exhale, keeping the core engaged
  • Arms and Hands:
    • Bring hands to prayer at heart center
    • Hook opposite elbow outside the front knee to deepen the twist
    • Press palms together to lift and open the chest
  • Head and Neck:
    • Gaze can be to the side, down, or up depending on neck comfort
    • Neck long and in line with the spine
  • Breath:
    • Use breath to expand the spine and deepen the twist
