Description:

A balancing pose that builds focus, strength, and stability in the standing leg while promoting flexibility in the lifted leg. Standing Leg Raise cultivates control and concentration.

Alignment Cues:

  • Standing Foot and Leg:
    • Ground evenly through all four corners of the standing foot
    • Engage thigh and lift kneecap to stabilize
  • Lifted Leg:
    • Lift the opposite leg to hip height or higher
    • Hold behind the thigh, shin, or grab the big toe with peace fingers
    • Keep the leg extended or bent, depending on flexibility
  • Hips:
    • Keep hips level and squared forward
    • Avoid leaning or collapsing into the standing side
  • Spine and Torso:
    • Lift through the crown of the head
    • Engage the core and lengthen through the spine
  • Arms and Hands:
    • One hand on the hip or extended to the side for balance
    • Opposite hand holds the raised leg or toe
